WHEN IS CHIP MORE THAN A CHIP??

Usually it's when it is on your car and not someone else's! Isn't it funny that when that 1 inch chip is on THEIR car, it's a tiny little thing but when it's on YOUR car it is a 1 inch CRATER!!! Yep! We understand! So NOW what???

Well, I'm glad you asked.....

So...you're driving down the highway, it's a sunny day, the world looks great and then from out of NOWHERE.. BAM! a rock lands right in the middle of your glass! YIKES!! OUCH!

What happened to your happy day? . . . . .

First thing, let me tell you about windshields. They are comprised of two layers of glass with a polyvinyl layer in the center. Having said that, most of the time, when you get a chip in your windshield, it is that first layer of glass that has been compromised. If it is not filled or repaired, it can and most likely will run which will end in having to replace the glass. Depending upon your vehicle, a replacement could run from $150 all the way to a $1000.00+ price. The more bells and whistles your car has and the year and make, all factor into those prices. NOT a warm and fuzzy feeling!

Now what??? ...

Take your car to a professional glass repair/replacement shop. They can do a chip repair as long as it is no larger than one inch. It normally takes around 25 - 30 minutes from start to finish and usually costs between $50 - $75. Much less than that windshield replacement. On a side note... the chip repair will not make that pesky smudge on your windshield go away completely. You will still see a speck. What it will do though is stop it from spreading .

This is a chip ! YIKES!

On another side note, your insurance company may cover the cost of the chip repair if you have full coverage. It would be a good idea to just check with them about that. At any rate, once you have that pesky chip filled, you're done! It's time to get back to that sunny day and your life!

Til next time..... Hit the road and HAPPY DRIVING!!
