Summertime and the Livin' is easy...

That is until you walk outside and realize that your windshield, that shiny, pretty windshield has a HUGE crack in it! How in the world could this happen to your car? !!!

You baby it, you wash it, you put those smell good air fresheners in it... it's your happy place and NOW it's cracked!!! Again, you ask how could this happen to YOUR car?

Well, let's talk...

We all love summer. It's the time for kicking back, pool parties, outdoor barbecues, backyard ball games and ROAD TRIPS! It is also when temperatures can swing between extreme heat and very cold air conditioning. That's often where the problem begins.

Believe it or not, that hard solid piece of glass actually isn't so solid. It can expand and contract in extreme temperatures. So, let's just say you have a small chip or nick in your glass. It's so small you may not even be able to see. But guess what? Your windshield knows it's there. And that's when the problem arises. The expansion and contraction of the glass can cause it to crack.

Can you avoid this?

Sometimes, yes and sometimes no. Prevention is always a good measure to take though. The best thing you can do is to make sure that if you have any chips in your glass that you have them professionally repaired. ( This process will help stop that chip from becoming a full blown crack and thus needing to be completely replaced). And remember that a chip repair is always going to be less costly than a full replacement. Additionally, many insurance companies will waive the deductible and pay for the cost of the repair... now THAT's pretty sweet!!!

Also, if your car is piping hot from being in the sun, don't turn your air conditioning on full blast immediately... it is that extreme of heat to cold that will urge any chip to run. Just let it cool gradually. Your windshield will thank you for it.

Now what?

Well here's the good news... you got your ride protected and it's time to get busy. REALLY busy.... GO ENJOY ALL THE FUN THAT SUMMER IS OFFERING YOU!!!

(I personally like road trips... complete with gourmet picnic goodies and my favorite playlist). Hit the road running! Til next time... Be safe and..

Drive like you mean it!!
